JUDITH HICKEY

January 6, 1942 - January 16, 2023

OQHA is saddened to share the passing of Judith Hickey at the age of 81 from pancreatic cancer.  Judy and her husband Dave owned Heritage Farms located in Millbrook, Ontario where they stood their stallion, An Awesome Mister.  An Awesome Mister had a profound impact on the quarter horse industry.  It was said that in the 90’s, the Hickey’s were breeding over 95 mares each year. Judy was instrumental in the promotion of their stallion and the offspring he produced.  Together, Judy and Dave were strong supporters of the Ontario Quarter Horse Breeders Futurity (OQHBF) and great ambassadors for the Quarter Horse industry. Eventually, the Hickeys would sell An Awesome Mister at the 1999 AQHA World Show Sale and where he was the highest-selling stallion.  When the Hickey’s stepped away from the horses, Judy continued volunteering for several organizations within the Northumberland area. What many OQHA members remember about Judy was her kindness, warm smile and always exhibiting class with whatever she did.

Judy was third from the left in the photo below.
